(白神岳) Mt. Shirakami Hike

I am not hiking this mountain, but I've already done my research, so I figured I'd write a post in the hopes that someone (you!) would find it useful.

Budget: JPY3,960 (~USD38)

• JPY3,960. Train, Akita Station < > Shirakamidakedaketozanguchi Station (JPY1,980 one way)

• No target date, not planning on hiking.

When to Go

Through out the year, it seems. I see logs even in December/January. 

Special Notes

• Trailheads. There are two possible trailheads, neither of which easily accessible by public transportation.
• Juniko (十二湖). With public transportation, but the time constraints make this a difficult hike. 
• Train, Akita Station to Juniko Station, with a transfer at Higashi Noshiro Station. Juniko Station can also be accessed via Aomori through Hirosaki Station. 
• Bus, Juniko Station (十二湖) to Okujuniko Parking Lot (奥十二湖駐車場), 15 minutes, 370 one way.
• Shirakamidaketozanguchi (白神岳登山口). The default trailhead, but not public transportation access. One can walk though. 
• Train, Akita Station to Shirakamidaketozanguchi Station, with a transfer at Higashi Noshiro Station. Juniko Station can also be accessed via Aomori through Hirosaki Station. 
• Walk, Shirakamidaketozanguchi Station to trailhead (google maps pin). It's 3.2kms, about an hour walk on the road.

• Mountain huts.
• Paid. None.
• Free. 白神岳避難小屋. This is right next to the summit. It is under renovation from September to October 2019, so not sure if it is available for use now. Make sure to check the link. 
• Camping. None. 

Itinerary

• 06:15am. Train, Akita Station to Shirakamidaketozanguchi Station.
• 08:37am. ETA: Shirakamidaketozanguchi Station. Start walking to the trailhead.
• 10:00am. ETA: Trailhead. Start hike. 
• 02:40pm. ETA: Summit.
• 06:30pm. ETA: Back at trailhead. 
• 07:30pm. ETA: Shirakamidaketozanguchi Station. 
• 08:49pm. Train, Shirakamidaketozanguchi Station to Akita Station.
