(越上山) Mt. Ogami Hike

This was an accidental find while I was looking at the map of Mt. Otakatori. Overall it was a nice, chill hike, with a quiet forest that is a highly recommended immersion with nature.

There are a couple of spots to enjoy the view of Saitama such as the photo above, but overall the main attraction is the actual trek.

Itinerary
  • 07:03am. Tokyo to Agano Station.
  • 09:00am. Arrived at Agano Station. Started the hike. Followed the signs to "顔振峠". There is a sign right outside the station, and about ten meters to the right I had to go down the stairs. At the end of it, turned right, walked next to the main highway, past the bridge, to a turn in the stop light that has signs pointing to 中学校. There's another sign pointing to 顔振峠, but I followed my map and crossed the street following the direction to 中学校, where I had to cross a bridge. Turned left after crossing the bridge, crossed another bridge, turned right, this time following the signs to 顔振峠. Before the main highway, there's a sign pointing to the left, so I turned left. It was 9:21am at this point. Walked straight for a while.
  • 09:38am. Finally arrived at the trailhead. It is the offshoot road when the highway turns to the left. So I went to the right fork, and soon enough was a steep cemented path up. That's the wrong path. Continued on a little bit, and there's a trail with signs pointing to 顔振峠. When I was there there was water running down the trail (it wasn't raining. Just the stream overflowing to the trail).
  • 10:16am. Stopped at the benches near a shrine to have my brunch.
  • 10:48am. Started hiking again.
  • 10:49am. Arrived at what I think is 顔振峠. It's a road (cars and cyclists pass through) with some cafes. I turned right at the road, but some posts say that there's a path straight to Ogami behind the cafe.
  • 10:58am. Arrived at the fork where I can take the trail at the left. From here on, followed the signs ユガテ (Yugate). Passed a shrine in ten minutes, and continued straight. Simply followed the signs to ユガテ.
  • 11:14am. Arrived at the fork to Mt. Ogami (越上山). I turned left.
  • 11:24am. Arrived at Mt. Ogami (越上山). There was a five second scrambling over a rock about ten meters from the summit. haha. Took pictures, retraced my steps back to the fork, and continued on to ユガテ
  • 01:21pm. Arrived at ユガテ??? Not sure, but I basically passed a small farming neighborhood. From here on I followed the signs to 東吾野駅 (Higashi Agano Station)
  • 02:22pm. Arrived at Higashi Agano  Station! Done!

*I don't have a lot of pictures, but I have videos! Just watch the quick vid above.

Sign right outside the station.

Right at the trailhead. The path to the right is the WRONG path. There's a trail about five meters later.

Summit of Mt. Ogami.

The view next to the summit.
