It was a gorgeous hike along a lush forest next to a river, both in spring and winter, and all I remember was that this mountain annoyingly has two kanjis - 川乗 and 川苔. Heck, even the summit markers use BOTH the kanjis. Outside of that, definitely a recommended mountain.

Highly recommend to hike in December / January when you can see a beautiful 15-20m frozen waterfall. It makes for a spectacular photo and is only a 5 minute detour from the main route.
ReplyDeleteSeems the author was not aware of this waterfall, but it the best part of the trail in my opinion.
Hi! Are you taking about the Hyakuhironotaki (百尋の滝) falls?
ReplyDeleteI guess it was higaeri, yes?! The time you mentioned you were on our way home appears to be in am, I am sure its typo and its pm! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you! Updated. Yes, it was higaeri.
DeleteThanks Lost Filipina for this useful blog post on the Mount Kawanori hike. We hiked it this past week in November and would like to highlight a few things. From the Kawanori-bashi trailhead to the Hyakuhironotaki (百尋の滝) falls, the trail is beautiful as it follows the river and has lots of terrain changes like clambering over rocks and boulders to climbing up bridges, etc. Once you pass the Mount Kawanori peak, the hike down to Hatonosu station is far less interesting as it’s mostly just pine forest, VERY long and still technically difficult with a mostly rocky trail. You need to plan your time and food/water accordingly especially if you are a slow hiker to get back to station before dark. It’s also easy to get lost as the trail signage is sparse and they don’t all indicate distances. Lastly, there’re not bathrooms on the trail. Good luck!
