(稲佐山) Mt. Inasa

Japan loves its list of three's - Three Holy Mountains, Three Holy Places, Three Views... you get the idea. One of these is its Three Night Views, which, as you might have guessed, features what they deem as the best night views of Japan.

They are Nagasaki's Mt. Inasa, Kobe's Mt. Maya and Hokkaido's Mt. Hakodate. This is my accidental visit to one of them - Nagasaki's Mt. Inasa.

Budget: JPY1,750 (~USD17)
  • JPY500. Tram day pass.
  • JPY1,250. Ropeway, roundtrip.
Visit Date
  • March 30. 2017
When to Go
Anytime during the year, though winter might be the best time for better luck with the weather. So December to February?

Special Notes
  • It's a mountain but it's not a hike. The easiest way is to just go the ropeway's boarding area (google maps pin here) and take a ropeway to the top. Google maps work and it's pretty easy to find.
  • Ropeway costs JPY1,250 round trip. Check the website for the status.
  • There's a light show at night, so just wait it out. It's nothing spectacular though.
  • There's a decent cafe at the top, which is a good (and warm) place to wait out the sunset.
Itinerary
  • No itinerary really, but do try to go around sunset so you can see the view during the day and at night.

My hostel has quite a helpful guide on how to get there - that's how popular this place is as a destination.

Plenty of signs to point you to the right way.

Ropeway up!

Walking to the observation deck.

Observation deck!

The less-pictured-view. The view during the day.

Sunset.

Finally getting close to night.

I stayed at the cafe and whiled the time away having a nice cup of coffee. Or cup of creamer.

Plenty of people had the same idea.

Finally, night has settled in.

This is it - one of the best.

Here's another pic.

They have a show of lights with these towers - basically flashing different colors of lights with music.
