Yes, yes, there is a visa on arrival at the Kathmandu Airport. BUT. I’m a Filipina. So the visa requirements are actually a tad different – for example, if I travel alone, I have to prove that I’m not a whore. I doubt that Japan has the same rules in place, but I’d rather be safe.
So.
What you need to prepare
- Application form. One page, easy peasy. There’ a PDF in the website, quite painless to fill up.
- 3.5×4.5cm passport photo. Just glue it to the application form.
- Passport. No photocopies needed.
Quick note – I tried calling the embassy a couple of times – no luck. There were also some reviews saying the same, so I’d say don’t expect much. If you have clarifications, you shouldn’t. The process is simple, and if yours is that complex, just go there.
Getting There
The embassy looks like a house. Seriously. It’s in a residential neighborhood too. So to find it, just look for the Nepalese flag. Follow the map provided by the embassy – it is very easy to find. Take the train to Meguro Station, and the bus stop from Meguro Station is right outside the West Exit.
At the Embassy
- Go inside, no need to ring the bell. But go ahead and ring it if you need it for your peace of mind. They ‘ll just say “douzo” which means come in.
- There’s a hallway, and the reception is on your left. Just fall in line if somebody’s talking to the reception people. There’s no number etc. You go to the reception, submit your papers, sit down and wait for your name to be called.
- Once called, you’ll only have to pay the corresponding fee in cash. That’s it.
Update: November 28, 2019 my passport was shipped, and I actually just picked it up! Yey!
