Hyakumeizan (百名山): Japan's 100 Famous Mountains

Back in 1964, one author decided to write about his 100 favorite mountains, and the crown prince liked his book, and then the 百名山 (Hyakumeizan/Hundred Famous Mountains) list was born. The criteria? The mountains he liked. Either way, the list has become somewhat of a, well, a checklist for those hiking in Japan, and now I want to jump into the wagon and try to do as much as I can of those, and hopefully help others too. 

Big shout out to the hiking in Japan blog, as it is the primary reference that kickstarted my Japan Hiking adventures. Here’s my rather sad attempt to summit all of the mountains on that list, and the current status on my end. But let's bring in my rather OCD-ish tendencies. I have created a mountain database: A summary of the 100 famous mountains and their respective mountain huts, access, etc. A work in progress for sure, but I'm slowly updating it.
